Please reach us at hello@hobokenunited.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Hoboken United plays league games & practices in the Fall (September through November) and in the Spring (March through June). There are optional practices in the Winter, and attendance at summer camps is encouraged.
We support girls and boys travel teams starting at U9 through high school teams. We offer learning opportunities to U7 and U8 kids through training and scrimmages.
Most of our teams play in the Northern Counties Soccer Association (aka NCSA). Some teams play in EDP.
Our teams are fully subscribed through the Spring 2024 season. Please sign up for our mailing list and follow us on Instagram at @hobokenunited for upcoming information on registration and tryouts for our Fall 2024-Spring 2025 teams. Teams are formed annually and are a full-year commitment.
Check out our team store on www.soccer.com. Several times throughout the year we will also have additional swag to purchase. Follow us on social media for links.
Please reach out to our registrar for all questions regarding player registration at registrar@hobokenunited.com
Fortunately for practices and home games, we have turf fields. So unless it is lightning, plan on playing! Any weather cancellations will be communicated through your team manager. For practices, we aim to make weather related decisions by 2pm.
For our teams that participate in NCSA, most of our opponents are in Hudson and Bergen Counties. For our EDP teams, games may be further away.
Generally our teams play 10 games per season. In the fall, NCSA boys teams play on Saturday and girls play on Sunday. In the spring, NCSA boys and girls both play on Sunday. EDP games are typically on Sundays. Keep in mind though, weather happens and games need to be shifted around for coach, field and player availability.
We are fortunate to partner with Red Bulls Youth Programs for our coaching staff. All of our coaches must have a USSF and/or UEFA coaching license, pass a background check every two years and take a SafeSport course annually.
A club is who you play for, so Hoboken United is our club. A group of clubs forms a league, so Hoboken United (club) plays in the NCSA and EDP leagues. A flight (also called a division) is the group of teams that your team will compete against that have been grouped based on similar skill and ability.
Small sided games are 7v7 and 9v9 games, while a large sided game is 11v11. U9 & U10 play 7v7, U11 and U12 play 9v9, and U13 and above play 11v11.
Part of the Hoboken United player contract is that all players will abide by the City of Hoboken rules on travel soccer players participating in recreation soccer. Current policy is that travel players are not permitted to also play rec soccer.
The U stands for ‘under’. So all players on a U12 team must be under 12 years old. US Soccer follows the year your player was born to determine what age they play in. There’s a great chart for figuring this out on USClub soccer.
Yes, we provide financial assistance to those in need. Please reach out to registrar@hobokenunited.com for further information. Additionally, we have several initiatives throughout the year to fund our financial assistance program.
Yes! Hoboken United and Red Bulls Youth Programs partner to offer the Believe Program to our special needs community. This is a cost-free weekly one-hour clinic in the fall and spring where our players can participate in a low-competition, fun and engaging atmosphere while learning soccer skills. Registration is posted on our social media at the beginning of each season.
In addition to the required uniforms (which are purchased on www.soccer.com); soccer cleats and shin guards are required. For games, always bring your home and away jersey as there is a chance for a last minute jersey change if there is a conflict of colors between opponents. Players may not wear anything that could be dangerous to them or another player on the field. That includes hoodies, any type of jewelry, hard barrettes or hair accessories. Remember, the referee has the ultimate say in what a player is allowed and not allowed to wear.
Hoboken United is a volunteer run organization and there are all different levels of involvement. Each team has a set of parent/guardian volunteers that serve as the parent manager and parent coach. There are plenty of other ways to get involved though! Hoboken United participates in many community events and we are always looking for volunteers to help out! Join us at the Trunk or Treat, coordinate your team’s tournaments, help plan an end of season get together for your team, throw your name in the hat for a Board of Trustees position, serve on an advisory committee! Reach out to hello@hobokenunited.com to inquire and offer your area of expertise!
We believe that our players need to be challenged in a developmentally appropriate way. We want our players to be inspired, love the game and have fun! Our partnership with Red Bulls is built around creating a fun and challenging environment where the players have the opportunity to learn. Our approach is player centered and each season our teams are presented with a seasonal developmental plan. This plan outlines a 12-week approach designed to strengthen the skills of each player and the team as a whole. Training is driven by a steady and comprehensive approach to learning. For an in-depth look at the Red Bulls Youth approach, please visit The Red Print
All teams and programs use TeamSnap to manage the schedule and communicate with the team. If you are going to be absent from an event, please update your attendance in TeamSnap. We ask that you do this as soon as possible so that the coach and Manager are aware of who to expect. If you have a last minute emergency and cannot make a game, please also reach out directly to your coach or manager so they are aware and can make sure there are enough kids to play the game.
In addition to TeamSnap for every team, we share a lot of information on our social media channels so please follow us on Instagram or Facebook at @HobokenUnited.
Players must wear soccer cleats. Our fields in town are turf so players are encouraged to wear turf cleats but grass cleats are acceptable as well. Many of the fields that we play on for away games will be grass so it is important that players have grass cleats to provide appropriate traction on grass surfaces.
U7-U8 = Size 3 or 4 ball, U9 to U12 = Size 4 ball, U13 and up = Size 5 ball
Parents are welcome to observe practices from the outside of the field but should refrain from coaching their child at any point.
Teams are encouraged to play in tournaments but the decision on which tournaments to enter is left to each team to decide. We have many teams who choose to play in the various EDP tournaments throughout the year, especially on weekends when there is no regular league play scheduled. We also have many teams who enjoy playing in local Halloween-themed tournaments in the fall and Beach sand soccer tournaments in the Spring. Some of our teams choose to participate in various indoor tournaments over the winter as well.
Practice and game schedules are usually available a few weeks before the Fall and Spring seasons begin. Practice takes place during the week, and schedules may differ in the Fall and the Spring. Usually, for girls, games will take place on Sundays in the fall and spring. For boys, games take place on Saturdays in the fall and Sundays in the spring. There will often be exceptions to this, but it is the general rule.
Hoboken United does not require residency in Hoboken to participate in our programs.
Full practice uniform (gray Adidas Hoboken United branded jersey, black Adidas shorts, red Adidas socks), shin guards, soccer cleats, soccer ball and water bottle.
Practices currently take place at 1600 Park, Sinatra Park, and Mama Johnson Field. Home games are played at 1600 Park and Sinatra Park.
